Wow. Well, today I finally got a component cable for my Playstation 2 after hearing it vastly improves the quality of Playsataion 2 games on HD televisions.
Now, before I start I tried three games out on this sytem. Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Infinite World and Tenkaichi 3.
Shaolin Monks looks beautiful using the component cable, the colours and sharp and the cutscenes are clear and better looking than I've ever seen them.
Infinite World, I was quite torn on. The smaller models look a wee bit better than usual but then (whilst using Goku GT) my opinion drastically changed. The Super Saiyan 4 form looks absolutely amazing, the red is vivid and the colours are very sharp. However there is a fair amount of pixelation.
Tenkaichi 3, my old enemy. Whilst I struggled a bit to cope with the fighting system after six months of Raging Blast I finally got to compare a bit. This is also quite a tricky one, the models are very blocky at times and the outlining pixels can even disappear during the character's introduction piece. The environments also suffer from extreme pixelation and I really do mean extreme. However the ki attacks, charing and super attacks look beyond beautiful. I was using GT Goku's ki attacks (yes, in all the games I used the GT characters to understand why people want them so badly) were amazing. The ki attacks had small lightning bolts around them and the whites of the lightning was beautiful.
Anyway, has anyone else done this yet or is anyone now considering it?
Also, the cable was branded as 'for PS3' and cost me around $8 (

I was thinking about getting cables similar to that for my Wii.
I really wish to see Monster Hunter Tri in higher-than-standard graphics.
Are there cables like this for the original Xbox?

Most likely, the only reason I'm doing it is because my PS3 isn't backwards compatible.

Neither is mine. I re-bought a Ps2 for a time a few months ago but I just couldn't get back into it because of having to jump back and forth consoles.

Not being able to go back to the Ps2 doesn't have anything to do with graphics. It was the games I had a issue with. I realized that a lot of ps3 games are way more epic than ps2 games.

Ah sorry, I interpreted your post as having to switch the consoles cables in and out of your TV. Yeah, I noticed whilst playing Tenkaichi 3 just how much better games have gotten.

For a really long time after RB came out, I was someone who said, "No, Tenkaichi 3 is better than Raging Blast."
But then I tried to go back and play Tenkaichi 3...and as fun as it was, I just couldn't enjoy the same as I did RB. The main factors were graphics, attacks, stages, and music. Sure T3 had way more characters and a more varied combat system, but it felt so restricting.

I got HDMI and it makes my PS3 games look MUCH better.
Except for GTA 4, that game has a very weird graphics engine.

Still looks better than the 360 version though.
Yeah I have the TV that pairs with the Ps3. It's pretty nice.

There's a TV specifically for the PS3?

Not specifically, but like a ..better-than-the-rest-of-the-tvs-when-connected-to-the-ps3 type of tv.

I also realised this when some months ago I re-bought B3. Unfortunately it wasn't as good as I had remembered it. I'm not sure what it was but I think 'cos of the graphics, the stages, the speed; I don't know but the games on the PS3 seems to be much more advanced.

I have those cables, since I still love my PS2 and got a lot of games I still want to play on it. It looks better than playing on a SCART cable on a HDTV and considering the price for such a cable nowadays, well worth it but I still think PS2 games will almost always look better on an SDTV because that's how the PS2 is built. It isn't built for a HDTV, same for the Wii but to a lesser extent, the best TV for a Wii is an "EDTV" (enhanced defition television) which is basically better than an SDTV but worse than a HDTV.
I believe games that came out later in the cycle of the PS2 tend to scale better with a Component cable than those at the beginning or somewhere in the middle of the cycle. Some games like Black and Okami even got a option to put it in 480p. Especially Okami looks great on 480p.
Final Fantasy XII, although it has no 480p option I believe, also looks great.
As for the Sparking games, I tried the PS2 versions of Sparking Neo and Meteor with the Component cable and the colors were indeed more vibrant and overall better-looking.
The Wii versions look also great with a Component cable, perhaps slightly better than their PS2 counterparts (with Component cable). The Wii version of Sparking Neo even has a 480p option and widescreen (it's automatically in widescreen so if you have a 4:3 TV, it probably won't look too good).
Here's the weird thing: In Sparking Meteor, there was no 480p option or widescreen. I think Spike took it out. So from a technical standpoint, Sparking Neo on the Wii has the best graphics.
In my opinion, the Wii version of Sparking Neo with widescreen and in 480p, with a Classic controller (almost the same as a PS2 controller) is the best looking Sparking game and perhaps the best Sparking game in general. The Wii version also has 6 or so extra characters, nothing big though except for King Piccolo which was that one character I still missed in the PS2 version of Sparking Neo. These characters are all in Sparking Meteor too.
I just wish the charge auras were better in Neo, in Meteor they are much better in my opinion.
